Baltimore Orioles (25-20)

John Lowenstein has 4 homers this season.  But he hit one in 3 straight games through Sunday.

The club hopes to get Doug DeCinces back in a few days from a back injury.

Frank Robinson was sent to AAA Rochester to work with top prospect Mark Corey on his hitting.

Milwaukee Brewers (26-21) 

Paul Molitor is hitting .266 but could be ready to break out.  He’s 7 for his last 12.

More rest has been ordered for Larry Hisle as he deals with shoulder tendenitis.

The club could get Don Money back in early June.  He’s nursing a hamstring injury.

New York Yankees (21-24)

The Yankees miss Goose Goosage.  The club is 1-7 in one run games.

Paul Mirabella was sent down to Columbus.  He’s 2-0 since the demotion.

The team wants to figure out what is wrong with Reggie Jackson.  The slugger has 6 homers while batting .217 with 44 strikeouts.

Detroit Tigers (19-20)

The team made some moves, selling backup catcher Milt May to the White Sox.  Detroit aso acquired Champ Summers from Cincinnati.

Detroit gave a workout to pitcher Roger Moret, who was released by Texas after having emotional problems.  But the Tigers won’t sign the 29 year old.

The Tigers called up 3 pitchers and an outfielder. Hurlers Fernando Arroyo, Pat Underwood and Dave Tobik joined the big club.  Outfielder Dan Gonzalez will also get a look.

Cleveland Indians (17-27)

Gary Alexander hated to leave Toronto.  He hit homers in back to back games over the weekend, his first and second roundtrippers.

Rick Wise has thrown better than his 3-4 record would indicate.  He has a 2.61 ERA.

Toby Harrah has gotten some boos aimed his way this year. Fans are still upset Buddy Bell was swapped for Harrah.

Boston Red Sox (31-12)

Carlton Fisk is back and hitting .308.  He’s likely to pinch hit or play DH as he recovers from a shoulder injury.

Stan Papi was called up.  To make room, Frank Duffy was released.

George Scott is now in 8th place on the list of games played for the Red Sox.

Toronto Blue Jays (14-32)

Roy Howell homered on Saturday. It was his 6th of the season.  But the first since April 29.

Tom Murphy’s release means Howell will take over as team player rep.

Dave McKay has been sent down to make room for 20 year old Danny Ainge. McKay was the only Canadian native on the team.

Kansas City Royals (20-26)

Rich Gale finally won his first game of the year, 3-1 over Seattle on Monday.  He git the victory despite 7 walks.

The Royals finally had a good week.  The club went 5-1.

Al Cowens, who was hit by a pitch thrown by the Rangers’ Ed Farmer, hopes to make it back in the lineup this week.

California Angels (22-25)

Nolan Ryan beat Chicago’s Ross Baumgarten for the 2nd time in a week.  The first time, Ryan won despite Baumgarten tossing a no hitter.  This time out, Ryan threw a 2 hit shutout and won 1-0.

Frank Tanana says he feels like he is getting stronger since missing time with a groin injury.

The Angels’ team batting average dropped from .289 in April to .246 in May.

Minnesota Twins (26-17)

The Twins swept the Rangers in Texas. But they followed it up by getting swept in K.C.

Mike Cubbage is among the league leaders hitting ,364.  But he’s headed to the disabled list.

Ken Landreaux says he feels no pressure despite being the main piece in the trade of Rod Carew. Landreaux us batting .290 with 8 homers.

Bombo Rivera came in a close second in the student government election at the University of Minnesota.  The story is some students came up with the idea of making him a write in candidate and had no idea about the effort.

Texas Rangers (34-11)

Ed Farmer has been solid all year. He’s 3-0 and won his last two outings, both as a starter. He also has 2 saves and a 0.37 ERA.

Larvell Blanks and Nelson Norman continue to split time at short.  Pat Corrales says he will go with which player has the hot hand.

Jim Kern has learned a slider from Sparky Lyle.

Chicago White Sox (20-25)

Rich Wortham fanned 9 Oakland batters in just 5 innings Thursday.  But he still lost.

Valuable reliever Mike Proly hurt his elbow and has been sidelined.

Rumors of Eric Soderholm being traded have resurfaced. His power numers are way down.

Oakland A’s (20-27)

Mike Edwards has 7 rbi this year.  5 came on Thursday vs. the White Sox.

Matt Keough’s name keeps coming up in trade talks.  Boston appears interested.  His father, Marty, played for the Red Sox.

AL writers and scouts rated the best hospitality offerings in press boxes. The A’s came in last. One said it’s fine if you like lukewarm fried chicken wrapped in tin foil.

Seattle Mariners (20-28)

Mike Parrott (2-2) threw a 2 hitter Friday in a 2-0 win at Texas.

The club believes Floyd Bannister is starting to blossom. He was obtained in a trade that sent away Craig Reynolds. Bannister is a Seattle native.

Dan Meyer had a big night Tuesday with 2 homeruns and 6 rbi.
